British chef and television presenter Matt Tebbutt of `Food Unwrapped' travels to South Africa to explore the landscape and experience the food it has to offer. As he travels across the country, he seeks out regional specialties and explores the diversity and flavour of local food. Each episode of the ten-part food and travel series focuses on the role of a single ingredient in the lives of South Africans, including beef, maize and South African barbecue. Matt also meets with local people, from a food blogger to farmers, cookbook authors and Nelson Mandela's personal chef, to discover food stories and learn about the rich culture and heritage of South African cuisine.
Episode 1
Matt Tebbutt explores South African’s love of cooking with fire. He travels to a town in the province of Gauteng to learn about a dish called shisa nyama.
Episode 2
Matt Tebbutt travels to Stellenbosch, an area of the Western Cape that is surrounded by vineyards. He learns about the widespread appeal of brandy in South Africa.
Episode 3
Cows have significant social and spiritual meaning in South Africa. Matt Tebbutt travels to the outskirts of Pretoria to learn more about their treatment of cattle.
Episode 4
Matt Tebbutt explores why maize is viewed as South Africa’s most important crop. He heads to the small resort town of Hartbeespoort to try their local maize delicacies.
Episode 5
Matt Tebbutt travels to Durban to get a taste of their diverse food culture. He visits a spice emporium to find out more about the city’s Afro-Indian infused dishes.
Episode 6
Matt Tebbutt learns about the rich and diverse food culture in South Africa’s second largest city, Cape Town. He also tastes a fried confectionary called koeksister.
Episode 7
Matt Tebbutt travels to Pietermaritzburg to meet a farmer who specialises in indigenous breeds. He then prepares a meal featuring Zulu sheep meat.

Matt Tebbutt travels to the beautiful fishing town of Kalk Bay. He learns about the catching and cooking of a delicious seasonal fish called snoek.
Episode 9
Matt Tebbutt heads deep into the bush of Mpumalanga to get a look at South Africa’s wildlife. He then learns from a chef about the cooking of game meat.
Episode 10
Matt Tebbutt meets renowned chef Coco Reinarhz to learn about the food culture in Johannesburg. They then join forces in the kitchen to cook a dish with pili pili mbuzi.
