A fresh digital series uncovering the culinary hotspots that are shaping the culture of Western Sydney's suburbs. Over eight Friday nights, Arka Das will be joined for a meal by special guests from the Here Out West film.
Episode 1
Arka takes actors Rahel Rohman and Thuso Lekwape to explore the sights, sounds and flavours of the thriving Bangladeshi strip in Lakemba.
Episode 2
Writer Dee Dogan invites Arka and Befrin Axtjarn Jackson to Blacktown for a home cooked feast with some help from local Kurdish community friends, and Arka gets a cooking lesson on the saj.
Episode 3
In bustling Canley Heights, Arka's tucks into his dream dish, the Vietnamese crispy-skin chicken noodles and tries some sweet stinky durian with writer Tien Tran, and actors Khoi Trinh and Brandon Nguyen.
Episode 4
Harris Park is known to locals as Little India; the perfect place for Arka and guests Leah Vandenberg and Bina Bhattacharya to unpack the richness of Indian regional cuisine and reflect on the diversity of being south Asian.
Episode 5
Writer Claire Cao treats Arka to her dad's home-made Burmese snacks before they head to Blacktown for a sumptuous meal at one of Western Sydney's only Burmese restaurants, with actor Jing-Xuan Chan.
Episode 6
Arka and writer/director Matias Bolla snack on empanadas and get invited to a lively Chilean asado (BBQ) out the back of a third generation Chilean butcher in Fairfield.
Episode 7
Actor and writer Nisrine Amine shows Arka around the homely Lebanese strip of Guildford, the suburb where she grew up. They go in search of fresh crispy falafels, and find comfort in hand-made Lebanese sweets.
Episode 8
Filipino food and culture is alive in Blacktown and Rooty Hill. With guests Vonne Patiag and Christine Milo, Arka is treated to a Filipino manicure, a sweet Halo-Halo and some street food from the smoky grill.
