In this first episode, Billy embarks on a poignant but entertaining trip by visiting a convention for funeral directors in Austin, Texas, to check out the best deals for the dearly departed. He also gets the lowdown on a drive-through funeral parlour in Los Angeles and experiences a voodoo ceremony in New Orleans. The Big Yin also talks to his old pal Eric Idle about how Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life has become a huge hit at funerals.

Billy looks at some of the people for whom death is big business, as well as opening up about his own father's passing and how he himself would like to be remembered. In the concluding part of the documentary, Billy continues his very personal but life-affirming journey with a visit to the premier Jewish memorial in Los Angeles, a pet graveyard in San Francisco and finally takes a tour around his own favourite cemetery in his native Glasgow.
